Tournaments : A Record Breaking Championships

The 3rd National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships held on 14 June 2009 at Yishun Sports Hall proved to be a record breaking event.

It attracted almost 1,200 participants. The youngest was 5 years old and the oldest 69 years old. For the first championships in 2007, more than 200 signed up for the event. Last year, the number doubled to more than 400.

Tournaments : PA-STF Taekwondo Championships (Important Information)

· Closing dates for all forms Tues, 23 Jun.

· Proofs of grades must be produced on the registration day.

· Weigh-in will NOT be conducted on the registration day. It will be held on the day of the competition when the players report at the inspection desk. There will be no weight allowance. Players who are over or under weight will be disqualified. Each player can have only one official weigh-in. A similar weigh-in machine will be provided for players to check their weight before they take their official weigh-in.

· The maximum number of players should be 4 (1 player per weight category) instead of 6 as spelt out in paragraph 8.3 the competition outline.

· Briefing and drawing of lots will be conducted on 5 July 2009 at 6.00pm at the National Training Centre. Coaches who are involved with the centralized grading on that day may request for their students to be graded earlier.

Tournaments : Poomsae Championships Notice and Schedule

The championships attracted 1,015 participants for the various categories!


· The reporting time will be 8.35 am.

· The competition will start punctually at 9.00 am.

· It is expected to end at 10.00 pm.

· Arrangement will be made to have six courts to run concurrently.

· The STF will decide on the number of judges. It may not be the standard number.

· Manual system will be used for scoring in the preliminaries and semi-finals.

· For the finals, electronic scoring system and 3 courts will be used.


Participants to get ready half an hour before their scheduled performance time. They should report immediately when their categories are announced.

A performer will be disqualified if he or she is not at the holding area when his or her group begins to compete.

The schedule and name lists are attached. Please ensure that the names of your participants are in the right categories. You are required to inform Brian Sir before noon on Friday 12 June 2009 if there is any error.

Equipment
Participants are responsible for their own protective equipment.
Equipment used for the competition must be approved by STF.
Wearing of mouthguard is compulsory but optional for young junior participants.

Uniform
Participants shall wear uniform approved by STF.

Weigh-in
Weigh-in shall be conducted once. However, one more weigh-in within half an hour of the first weigh-in shall be granted to contestants who fail to qualify the first time. Switching of weight categories after weigh-in will not be allowed.

Method of Competition
Cut-off for Poomsae.
Single Elimination for Kyorugi.
There will be no contest if there are less than four entries in any of the categories.

Rules and Regulations
World Taekwondo Federation and Singapore Taekwondo Federation rules will apply. Website:http//www.wtf.org
Sparring will be conducted in 3 rounds of 1.5-minute each
with 30 seconds' rest in between rounds. The highest score for
the three rounds will be declared the winner. In the event of a
tie after the third round, the rules for sudden death will be
applied for the fourth round. The organising committee
reserves the right to modify the duration.

Scoring
The total medal tally awarded for both the Poomsae and Kyorugi events will contribute to the Overall Team Champion. The Team must participate in Poomsae events before they will be considered for the Overall Team Championship.

Rules & Regulations - Taekwondo
Highlights:
5. EQUIPMENT
The body and head protector will be provided by the Organising Committee.

8.2. Participants
8.2.2. Contestants shall be the holder of Taekwondo Dan certificate issued by the Kukkiwon.
8.2.3. Age Eligibility
All taekwondo competitors must be at least 16 years old in 2009 (born in 1993 or before).

8.3. Entries
8.3.1. The preliminary registrations with an indication of the probable number of athletes in each event must be submitted to the Secretariat no later than 1 August 2008.
8.3.2. The final registrations with the names of each athlete indicating event entered must be submitted to the Secretariat no later than 1 August 2009. Such submissions may be made by telefax if followed by the official registration form.
8.3.3. No changes or additional entries will be accepted after 1 August 2009.

9.2. Duration of Contest
The duration of the contest shall be three rounds of two (2) minutes each, with a one (1) minute rest period between rounds.
In case of a tie score after the completion of the 3rd round, a 4th round of two minutes will be conducted as the sudden death overtime round, after a one (1) minute rest period following the 3rd round.
In case of a tie score in a final match for the champion, the 4th round of three minutes will be conducted with the sudden death overtime system. Any points, Gam-jeom, Kyong-go or superiority of the last three rounds shall not be calculated in the 4th round. When a contestant receives one time of Gam-jeom in the 4th round, the opponent shall be declared as the winner.

9.3. Weigh-in
Weigh-in of the contestants on the day of competition shall be completed on the previous day of the relevant competition.
During weigh-in, the male contest shall wear underpants. However, weigh-in may be conducted in the nude in the case that the contestant wishes to do so.

9.5.2 Duties
Referee
The referee shall declare "Shi-jak", "Keu-man", "Kal-yeo", "Kye-sok" and "Kye-shi", winner and loser, deduction of points, warnings and retiring. All the referees' declarations shall be made when the results are confirmed.

9.7. Clothing
The contestant shall wear the trunk protector, head protector, groin guard, forearm guards, shin guards, gloves and a mouthpieces before entering the contest area, worn beneath the Taekwondo uniform. The contest shall bring this WTF-approved protective equipment, as well as gloves and the mouthpieces, for his/her personal use. Wearing any item on the head other than the head protector shall not be permitted.

9.8. Hearing Aids
The use of any hearing aid/amplification or external cochlear implant parts are not permitted within the restricted zone area.

10. TECHNICAL MEETING
The Taekwondo technical meeting will be held on 5 September 2009 in Gong Cheng Complex in Taipei Municipal University of Education at 9:00. Each participating National Association may be represented by two officials, of whom at least one must be deaf and, if necessary, an interpreter.

National Kyorugi Referee Course Results 2009

Congratulations to the following for attaining Referee Certification:

1. Benjamin Teo

2. Kareen Lim Suat Ching

3. Kingston Mok You Hong

32 out of 61 participants successfully obtained the National Kyorugi Referee (Class 3P) certification. They took the theory and practical tests on 25 April 2009 after completing the course conducted on 18 and 19 April 2009.

They spent 2 weekends, absorbing as much as they could, learning the ropes of being an effective referee.

The new referees may apply for promotion to Class 3 as soon as they chalked up 30 hours of officiating experience in tournaments organized or sanctioned by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation.

are competing in.

Competition Rules : WTF & STF rules shall apply.
The sequence of performance for the competitors
shall be as follows.

- Individual
(By alphabetical order of the names of the participants)

- Pair/Team
(By alphabetical order of the names of the Clubs)

Method of Competition : Cut-off system

Preliminaries - Any number of participants

Semi-finals - About 50% of the number of participants in the preliminaries

Finals - 8
(The judges reserve the right to vary the number selected for each stage)

Classification : Individual, pair and team events

Division : 7 divisions -

A (4 & 6 years old),
B (7 to 9 years old),
C (10 to 12 years old),
D (13 to 15 years old),
E (16 to 20 years old),
F (21 to 30 years old) and
G (31 years old and older)

Category : Dan - 1st and higher
Poom - 1st and higher
Red (BT) - Grade 1
Red - Grade 2
Blue (RT) - Grade 3
Blue - Grade 4
Green (BT) - Grade 5
Green - Grade 6
Yellow (GT) - Grade 7
Yellow - Grade 8
White (YT) - Grade 9

(Based on highest grade obtained on or before the April 2009 grading.

Participation : There is no limit to the number of participants a
club can field for the individual events. However,
for the pair and team events, only 1 pair and 1
team are allowed for each division and category.

Participation Fees :
$30 per team
$20 per pair
$10 per individual
Awards : Medals will be awarded to eight finalists according
to positions.
Certificates of participation will be given to all participants and team officials.
Benefits of Participation Conditions of Participation:
Competitors will be able to test their poomsae standard in the competition and bring it to a higher level for their grading which will be held a few weeks later
